DID APPLE TV+ DISRESPECT YOON YUH JUNG FOR ASKING HER TO AUDITION FOR ROLE?

Would they have asked Meryl Streep to audition?

Apple TV+ almost shot itself in the foot.

The streaming service with virtually zero market share in Korea had the gall to ask Yoon Yuh Jung, the Oscar winner, regarded as Korea's Meryl Streep and who has a catalogue spanning over 52 years of auditioning.

The actress revealed in an online press conference she participated for the upcoming Apple TV+ original series 'Pachinko,' which will premiere on the 25th of this month. Youn Yuh Jung revealed during the online press conference that she was initially told by Apple TV+ that she needed to come audition for a role in the drama.

Youn Yuh Jung continued, "It made no sense for me to audition after decades of acting."

She explained, "If I auditioned and the show determined that I was unsuitable for the role, then in our industry, people will say 'Youn Yuh Jung failed the audition.' I couldn't risk jeopardizing my 50-year career for this one role, and so I discarded the eight scripts I received outside the front door."

It was only then the producers asked her to join their cast without auditioning.

It was also revealed that Lee Min Ho auditioned for and was accepted into 'Pachinko.' Lee Min Ho stated on this day, "I know there were six auditions in total, but I believe I attended four of them."
